Idli sambar is a tasty & delicious hotel style tiffin sambar that is served with idli.

The ingredients needed to make Idli sambar:
  1. Prepare For idli-
  2. Prepare 200 gm rava
  3. Take as needed Curd
  4. Take 1 tsp salt
  5. Take 1 pouch eno
  6. Get 1/2 tsp oil
  7. Take For sambar-
  8. Make ready 20 shallots chopped
  9. Get 1 tomato chopped
  10. Take 1 bell pepper cubed
  11. Make ready 3 tablespoons thick tamarind juice
  12. Prepare 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  13. Get 10 curry leaves
  14. Prepare 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  15. Take to taste Salt
  16. Make ready 2 cup water
  17. Prepare For masala-
  18. Prepare 1/4 cup pigeon peas
  19. Prepare 3 teaspoons coriander seeds
  20. Get 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns
  21. Get 1/8 teaspoon methi seeds
  22. Get 4-6 dried red chilies
  23. Get 1 tablespoon chana dal
  24. Take 2 teaspoons oil

The recipe is served in the entire India as a street food as well as in high end restaurants. Idli is steamed and is high in protein and so is sambar, the concoction of lentils and veggies. Idli Sambar aka Tiffin Sambar is a recipe from my Mom in law. This is a no-dal recipe and it is so easy to make.

Instructions to make Idli sambar:
  1. Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a pressure cooker. Once the oil is hot fry 3 teaspoons coriander seeds, 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, 1/8 teaspoon methi seeds, 1 tablespoon chanadal, 4-6 dried red chilies. Fry till golden brown. Now add 1/4 cup toor dal and saute for 2 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes. Reserve the oil in the same cooker.
  2. Once cooled down, grind the fried ingredients into a thick paste. Add just enough water to make a paste.
  3. Now heat the reserved oil again i the same cooker. temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add shallots, chopped tomatoes and chopped bell peppers. Saute for 2 minutes. Add turmeric powder and saute well. Add the tamarind extract and mix well.
  4. Add the ground masala and mix thoroughly. Add 2 cups water and required salt. Mix well and close the cooker. pressure cook for 10 minutes or up to 4 whistles. Once the pressure is released check the consistency of sambar. If it is too thick for your liking add 1/4-1/2 cup water and bring to a boil. Add cilantro leaves and serve sambar with rice or idli.
  5. For idli- take a boil mix all ingredients (rava,salt,curd)
  6. And at the end add eno powder mix it. In idli stand brush out oil. And bake for 5-6 mint. Your idli is ready.

Idli Sambar aka Tiffin Sambar is a recipe from my Mom in law. This is a no-dal recipe and it is so easy to make. Sambar, a hot and spicy lentil soup with mixed vegetables, is a must have accompaniment for popular South Indian breakfast and lunch recipes like Idli, Dosa, Medu Vada, Steamed Rice etc. It is very simple and also tastes great with both idli and dosa. You can do this with or without the vegetables.
