Idli sambar recipe made with dal, quick cook veggies, spices and herbs. This is my version of the quick tiffin sambar that goes good with most South Indian breakfasts. You can serve this flavorful & delicious tiffin sambar with Soft idli, Instant Rava idli, medu vada, khara pongal, Crispy dosa, masala dosa and most other tiffins. Idli sambar is a tasty & delicious hotel style tiffin sambar that is served with idli.

The ingredients needed to make Idli sambar:
- Take 1 tsp coconut oil
- Get 1/2 tsp methi / fenugreek
- Take 1/4 cup coriander seeds
- Take 1 tbsp cumin / jeera

- Get 20 dried red chilli
- Get leaves few curry
- Get 1/4 tsp hing / asafoetida

- Take 4 shallots, halves
- Make ready 2 chilli, slit
- Take 1 tomato, chopped
- Take 1/2 carrot, chopped
- Take 1 potato, cubed
- Get 5 beans, chopped
- Get 5 pieces drumstick
- Prepare 1/2 brinjal / baingan, cubed
- Make ready 1/4 tsp turmeric
- Take 1/2 tsp jaggery
- Prepare 1 tsp salt
- Get 1 cup water
- Get 3/4 cup tamarind extract
- Get 1 cup toor dal, boiled
- Take 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
- Prepare 1 cup rava / semolina / suji, coarse
- Take 1 cup curd / yogurt
- Get 1/2 tsp salt
- Make ready 1/4 cup water
- Prepare 1/4 tsp eno fruit salt or pinch of baking soda
The recipe is served in the entire India as a street food as well as in high end restaurants. Idli is steamed and is high in protein and so is sambar, the concoction of lentils and veggies. Idli Sambar aka Tiffin Sambar is a recipe from my Mom in law. This is a no-dal recipe and it is so easy to make.
Instructions to make Idli sambar:
- Firstly, in a large kadai heat, 2 tsp oil and splutter tempering. - add 4 shallots, 2 chilli and saute for a minute till it changes colour. - further, add 1 tomato and continue to cook.
- Now add mixed vegetables and saute for 2 minutes.further, add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp jaggery, 1 tsp salt and 1 cup water.mix well, cover and boil for 10 minutes.now add ¾ cup tamarind extract and mix well.cover and boil for 10 minutes.
- Additionally, add 1 cup toor dal, water and mix well.add in 4 tsp of prepared sambar powder.boil for a minute, until the flavours are well absorbed.
- Add in 2 tbsp coriander leaves and mix well. - finally, enjoy idli sambar with hot steamed idli.
- Firstly, in a large pan roast 1 cup rava for 5 minutes or till it turns aromat.allow it to cool completely, and transfer roasted rava to a mixing bowl.add in 1 cup curd, ½ tsp salt and combine well without forming any lumps.
- Allow to rest for 20 minutes or till rava / sooji absorbs water. - again add ¼ cup water or as required to prepare idli batter consistency.just before steaming the idlis, add in ¼ tsp eno fruit salt or pinch of baking soda and give a gentle mix.
- Pour the batter immediately onto greased idli plate. - steam them on medium flame for 15 minutes or till the idli are cooked completely.finally, serve soft sooji idli or plain rava idli along with chutney and sambar.
Idli Sambar aka Tiffin Sambar is a recipe from my Mom in law. This is a no-dal recipe and it is so easy to make. Sambar, a hot and spicy lentil soup with mixed vegetables, is a must have accompaniment for popular South Indian breakfast and lunch recipes like Idli, Dosa, Medu Vada, Steamed Rice etc. It is very simple and also tastes great with both idli and dosa. You can do this with or without the vegetables.
