The ingredients needed to make Tea Affogato:

Pouring the hot matcha over green tea ice cream. Making the hot match is easy, just whisk matcha and hot water until frothy. I used the traditional matcha whisk, called "chasen", but you can use a regular whisk and bowl. Instead of the traditional shot of hot espresso being poured over vanilla ice cream, I created this recipe using Asian flavors with matcha, red bean paste and mochi.

Instructions to make Tea Affogato:
  1. Using an ice cream scoop, drop two scoops of ice cream into a glass, then chill in the freezer until it's ready to be served.
  2. Right before serving, pour the steeped black tea, then top with your choice of toppings, then serve!

  4. This is a green tea and anko version. It tasted slightly astringent, this was delicious. I think it would also work well with matcha.
  5. With Hoji tea (roasted green tea) and sunflower seeds. This might seem like a strange combination, it was great.

I cool down the matcha a bit so it's warm—not hot—before pouring on top of the gelato to prevent ice chips from forming.
